Ashland Police Address Solicitor Permits

At the August 16 Town Council meeting Ashland Police took time to remind residents that door-to-door solicitors need solicitation permits while operating in Ashland.  Additionally, Chief Doug Goodman advised that only two permits had been applied for in the past few years so "if anybody is going door to door in Ashland, they probably don't have a permit at this point, just statistically speaking. In fact, I don't think there are any active permits right now, today,"  For more information on the council meeting visit here.

Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Awarded NACo Achievement Award

The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is the recipient of the 2011 National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Award for the newly formed Motorists Assistance Program. NACo recognizes effective and innovative programs which contribute to and enhance county government in the United States. This is the 42nd year the award has been given by NACo.

Mechanicsville man sentenced for receipt of child pornography

William Mills, age 45, of Mechanicsville, Virginia, was sentenced yesterday by Senior United States District Judge Robert E. Payne to 151 months’ incarceration for one count of Receipt of Child Pornography.  Mills pled guilty to the charge on January 18, 2011.  Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, announced the sentence.

According to court documents, Mills was identified by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation during an undercover investigation of individuals trading images of child sexual abuse over the Internet on peer-to-peer file-sharing networks.  Based on this and other corroborating information, agents executed a search warrant at Mills’s residence, where they seized Mills’computer and cell phone.

The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office has linked five individuals with a series of crimes in the Studley area of Hanover County.

Two face multiple life sentences in Henrico robberies - Times-Dispatch

Two masked men who threatened bank tellers and made off with more than $12,000 in two Henrico robberies last year are facing multiple life sentences when they are sentenced in September, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Deberoe Walls Jr., 38, of Montpelier, and Larry D. Hooper, now 45, of Mechanicsville, were convicted Thursday afternoon of multiple charges linked to two bank robberies that Henrico Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael S. Huberman said deeply affected victims inside the banks.

Retailer arrested for distribution of synthetic marijuana

 

On Friday, investigators with the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office charged Nargis A. Odhwani, a 55-year-old female of the 5800 block of Lauren Trail in Midlothian and Rahal Y. Atiyeh, a 23-year-old male of the 2700 block of Seminary Avenue in Richmond, for distribution of synthetic marijuana, also known as "Spice." Odhwani is the owner of the D-H Food Mart/Valero gas station at 7119 Mechanicsville Turnpike. Atiyeh is a merchandise contractor for the store. Both Odhwani and Atiyeh have been released on a bond. Odhwani is scheduled to appear in Hanover General District Court on April 19. Atiyeh’s court appearance is scheduled for April 15.

Investigators began an investigation on April 6 into the sale of Spice at the business after a juvenile received treatment at a local hospital for ingesting Spice that was reportedly purchased at the D-H Food Mart.

Mechanicsville break-in suspect arrested

The Hanover County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in a series of daytime home break-ins in the Mechanicsville area.

Jordan Mantlo, 23, of the 7400 block of Ridge View Road in Mechanicsville, is charged with 11 felonies including breaking and entering and grand larceny. He's accused of breaking into four homes in and around Spring Meadows between March 23 and April 2.

Mantlo is wanted for similar charges in several other areas. He's currently behind bars at the Henrico County jail.

Mantlo's swift arrest was made possible by intelligent police work and the continuous dedication exhibited by Sheriff’s Office personnel, according to Captain Michael J.
