Social services, CSB now have Mechanicsville offices | Health

Mechanicsville-area residents who wish to apply for benefits programs offered by the Department of Social Services or to seek mental health, substance abuse and child and medical services offered by Community Services now have a much shorter trip. The two departments opened offices at 8475 Bell Creek Road in Mechanicsville on June 14 and an official ribbon-cutting was held on June 20. The hours are 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Intake and ongoing Social Services benefits programs (such as Medicaid, Temporary Assistance of Needy Families and food stamps) will be available at the Bell Creek location. It’s the first time that the Hanover DSS has had a Mechanicsville location.The Hanover Community Services Board (CSB) is moving the services that had been located at Fountain Park to these new offices.

The departments have a common entrance but each Department has a separate customer window. The 13,600 square feet in the new building has been designed to allow privacy for all customers.The new location also saves taxpayer dollars because the CSB services moved from rented space at Fountain Park to owned space. The County has been seeking to move offices or programs that were located in rented or leased space for a couple of years now and has saved about  $260,000 as a result of these efforts.
