Five Represent Hanover in State Legislature

Hanover County has five representatives in the Virginia General Assembly, whose 2012 session began today.

There are now three State Senators that represent portions of Hanover County, which is divided into 36 active voting precincts.

Ryan T. McDougle of Mechanicsville represents voters in 26 of the 36 voting precincts and the remainder of the 4th Senatorial District in the 40-member State Senate. Hanover announces new polling places

Ashland District:

105 – The Berkley Precinct is located on the campus of John M. Gandy Elementary School in F building #2 class room facing School Street; parking is in the School Board parking lot.

106 – The Kersey Creek Precinct is located behind Hanover High School just off Rt. 301 and Whippoorwill Rd. at 10004 Learning Lane, Mechanicsville, 23116. 

 

Beaverdam District:

209 – The West Hanover Precinct is located in the Hanover Parks & Recreation building next to the Montpelier Center for Arts and Education.

210 – The Oak Hill Precinct is located at Patrick Henry High School at 12449 West Patrick Henry Rd, Ashland, Va.

October 17 Is Deadline to Register to Vote

To vote this Election Day, you must be registered in your precinct by 5 p.m. on Monday, October 17. You can register at the Hanover Registrar's Office, Room 119 in the Wickham Building at Hanover Courthouse. Voter registration forms also can be downloaded from www.co.hanover.va.us/registrar/register.htm and also are available at all branches of the Pamunkey Regional Library. Call the Registrar's Office at 365-6080 to request that a form be mailed to you. The e-mail address is HanoverVoting@co.hanover.va.us Registration forms returned by mail also must be postmarked no later than October 17.

Tuesday, Nov. 1 is the last day to apply by mail for an absentee ballot. If you are going to vote absentee in-person, you must do so by 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5.

Hanover's New Registrar Plan

November election month is only a few months away. As the Election Day approaches, it’s important all Hanover County residence know where to cast their ballots. This is all part of the federally mandated redistricting plan, which is reviewed and revised every 10 years.

After three previous precincts were deleted in the plan, the most recent plan will bring in five new voting locations. Local residence will receive new voter identification cards that will be mailed to all registered voters in the County before the month of November. After receiving this card, it’s important to make sure their personal information is correct, and to seek where their new voting location is.

According to the Mechanicsville Local, three precincts not included are Goddin’s Hill No. 204 at the old Hanover Trades building, Stoney Run No. 207 at Elmont Elementary School and Old Church No.

Wade announces bid for re-election

Elton Wade, supervisor from the Cold Harbor District, has announced his candidacy for a sixth term, according to the Mechanicsville Local.

“It has been a privilege for me to serve the people of the Cold Harbor District and Hanover County for the last 20 years and I look forward to serving my constituents for four more years if given the honor.” Wade said. “Together with the other members of the Board, I have worked to keep taxes low, improve our K-12 education, strengthen our public safety, and pursue smart growth for the county. We have worked tirelessly to ensure that the environment here in Hanover promotes business growth and continued success for our entire community.

Hanover County approves 2012 budget

Hanover County approved its budget for next year at a meeting Wednesday afternoon. 

The $390 million budget will give county employees and teachers a two percent raise for the first time in three years. 

The budget also does away with $10 county decals that are used to haul trash to the county landfill.

Randolph-Macon College will host U.S. House of Representatives Majority Leader Eric Cantor on Monday, March 28, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. The event will be held in Blackwell Auditorium, R-MC’s Center for the Performing Arts.
