Hanover County Public Schools Board meeting agenda

Hanover County Public Schools will meet this Thursday.

The meeting will cover responses to Board members’ questions regarding the proposed 2013-2014 budget, an overview of process-to-date regarding consideration of consolidation of services, and consideration of a proposal to make lacrosse a VHSL sport.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, at the School Board Office, 200 Berkley Street, Ashland.
 

Hanover County Public Schools meeting

Hanover County Public Schools is holding a school board meeting next week.

The meeting will cover the school budget, a presentation of the proposed 2013-2023 capital improvement plan and 2013-2014 school food services budget, and a review of the 2013-2014 proposed budget document and work session topics.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 22, at 7:30 PM at the School Board Office, 200 Berkley Street, Ashland.

County schools receive state honor

Beaverdam Elementary School and Mechanicsville Elementary School are among 92 schools in Virginia to receive the designation of “Title I Distinguished Schools.”

Those two schools represent Hanover County Public Schools, according to a report recently released by the Virginia Board of Education.

Two school divisions and 92 schools have been recognized by the state system for raising the academic achievement of economically disadvantaged students.

The awards are based on student achievement on state assessments during the 2010-2011 and 2009-2010 school years.

Highland County and West Point earned the designation of “Distinguished Title I School Division” by exceeding all federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) achievement objectives in reading and mathematics for two consecutive years.

38th Annual Festival of the Arts and Sciences

Hanover County Public Schools will present the 38th Annual Festival of the Arts and Sciences on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Atlee High School.  The community is invited to see performances and curriculum exhibits including music, theater, fine arts, and physical education as well as individual school exhibits including language arts, math, science, social studies, and career and technical education.  The opening ceremony will be held in the auditorium at 10:00 a.m.  Scheduled performances and subject area exhibitions will continue throughout the day until 4:00 p.m.

The event is an opportunity to bring the community together to share the results of student learning in all areas of the curriculum.  It is a student-centered activity allowing the teaching staff to showcase student products and provide student demonstrations.

Open Career Fair Comes to West End University

Open Career Fair Comes to West End University

JobZone, in partnership with Stratford University, is hosting a Career Fair in Glen Allen, near Short Pump Town Center, on Wednesday, March 28th. The event is open to the public, and will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“The event will offer attendees an opportunity to network with hiring managers, learn of current and rising employment needs within the visiting companies, and utilize other resources available such as the Greater Richmond Partnership, a leader of knowledge regarding new business and expansions happening in the Richmond Metro Area,” said Jessica Harlow, Director of Career and Student Services at Stratford University’s Glen Allen campus.

The fair will feature companies scouting talent in a variety of industries.
